Michael Paterson

Michael Paterson

Michael Paterson grew up on the West Coast of Scotland and joined the Royal Navy in 1988.  Over his 26 year career, he served at sea as a Warfare Officer, including as the Captain of the Destroyer HMS GLOUCESTER but also on joint operations in Afghanistan, the Gulf, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Caribbean.   His later career including a number of roles in Whitehall and Navy Command.  Leaving the service in 2015, he worked as a Director in UK Rail before joining Svitzer as the Managing Director of the UK and Ireland.  Svitzer operate some 80 vessels and service around 26 ports across the UK.  

Mike is married with 19 year old triplets who are all currently at university.  He has an MA from Kings College London, a PGDip in Applied Navigation from the University of Plymouth, level 7 in Strategic Management and Leadership from Manchester Business School and a Certificate in Company Direction from the IOD.  He is currently the Chairman of the British Tugowners Association and a member of the Chamber of Shipping Supervisory Board.
